What is PROTO II™?

The Proto-II™ Wall System is a patented and engineered Masonry wall design that uses Post Tensioning to structurally support Masonry in lieu of rebar and grout. The Proto-II™ Masonry Wall system is an engineered wall that has the stamp of approval by the State of California. A Proto-II™ Masonry Wall is built using the same block, the same mortar and the same Bricklayers as a Conventional block wall. By all appearances, a Proto-II™ Block wall looks exactly like a Conventional Block wall. The only difference between a Post Tension Masonry wall and a Standard Block wall is what's on the inside.

Slumpstone Masonry Wall San Diego Tidwell Masonry.jpg The basic Proto II™ system consists of high strength steel tension rods “L”-hooked under a single rebar in the footing, a 1/4" steel plate washer, direct tension indicator and tensioning nut, and joint reinforcement at specified locations. The Proto II™ Masonry Wall System demonstrates simplicity of design achieving efficiency and strength. Wall compression attained from specified post tension forces creates outstanding structural integrity; stronger than Conventional masonry, yet with the ability to flex without failure under code specified wind and seismic loading.

The Proto-II™ Masonry Wall uses post tension engineering resulting in a compressive force distributed throughout the Masonry wall. The post tensioned force holds the Masonry wall intact and prevents it from failing, even in extreme conditions. The post-tension method yields much greater strength from system materials through active compression of the entire structure - all components act as one. With higher structural values, less structural material is needed than required by conventional grout/rebar methods to accomplish the same end result. Conventional Masonry walls depend upon the passive combination of rebar and grout. Proto II™ uses the controlled, pro-active method of post-tensioning to create structural integrity. Proto II’s adaptation of this technology provides a Site wall unlike anything obtainable with Conventional Masonry methods, or other less-durable fencing options.

Why Proto II™ is up to 40% less

Proto-II™ requires smaller footings. This means less soil to dig and less concrete. In most cases, the displaced soil can remain on the property. Minimal amount of rebar is needed in the footing when using Post Tension Masonry. Less material is needed to build the wall. Therefor, there is not only savings in material cost, but in labor. Does not require grout. This eliminates the expense of another Concrete truck delivery and the grout. No grout eliminates the need for a concrete pumper a second time. Less material and less labor means that Proto-II™ is a cost effective solution to building a Masonry Fence wall in San Diego and these cost savings are past on to you!
